Downtown Milton Haunted House

Thousands of thrill seekers are expected to descend upon historic downtown Milton this Halloween season to experience Main Street Milton’s popular Haunted House attraction, “Descension,” starting Oct. 21st- 23rd and resuming Oct. 26th-31st, from 7 p.m. until at least 10 p.m. on week nights and midnight on weekends. Cost is $5 per person, cash only, unless otherwise pre-arranged. The new, wheelchair-accessible venue, which is an abandoned warehouse, is located at 6674 Elva Street and twice the size of the previous location.

More than 4,000 visitors are willingly mortified every year in the annual event that raises money for a not-so-scary cause: projects that contribute to the revitalization of downtown Milton.

New this year will be a not-so-scary, kid-friendly matinee on weekends at 7 p.m. and special activities on Halloween, including a pumpkin-decorating and kids costume contest. Entry fees for Halloween night contests are a canned good donation for First Baptist Church of Bagdad’s food pantry.

According to Claire Potter, Event Coordinator, “We’re excited to expand and already have some participants signed up for our ‘decorate-a-room’ contest, which includes themes such as The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, Spider Maze, and Shrunken Headhunters.” For a $10 entry fee, groups can create themed rooms which will be judged for trophies and cash prizes: first place, $100; second place, $50, and third place, $25. Details and registrations forms are available at www.mainstreetmilton.org. Potter adds, “It’s suggested to staff the rooms, but automated entries are also allowed. We’re looking for creepy creativity.”For the contest, contact: Claire Potter, 850-626-7149 , pottercb@bellsouth.net.

Advance tickets and group rates are available, and volunteer actors for the event are needed.
